Bartels Fellow: William Crutchfield to Lecture, “Being an Entrepreneur for All the Right Reasons:” November 8
This fall's Bartels Lecture Series features William Crutchfield, founder and CEO of Crutchfield Corporation, the Internet electronics retailer, who started his business with $1,000 in his mother's basement. Crutchfield will speak about “Being an Entrepreneur for all the Right Reasons” at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 8 in Dodds Theatre. Click here for more information about the lecture.

Calling All Veterans to Participate in the 6th Annual Veterans Day Celebration: November 12
On Veteran's Day 2007 the Alumni Association would like to recognize the sacrifices of faculty, staff, alumni and current students who have or are currently serving in the Armed Forces of the United States, particularly those who are veterans of a conflict and meet the criteria for the Connecticut Wartime Service Medal. Click here for the criteria. It would be our honor to submit your application to the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs. We will present these awards at the University's annual Veterans Day Celebration at noon Monday, November 12, 2007 at the Maxcy Hall flagpole. 6th Annual Veterans Day Celebration.

New Residence Hall on the Drawing Board
Plans are underway to begin construction of a new $40 million, 400-bed residence hall in the spring of 2008 just off Ruden Street. The residences will offer single rooms within a suite that will be equipped with a full kitchen. It will be ready for September 2009 occupancy.

Football to Return: UNH Accepts an Invitation to Join the Northeast-10 Conference
The presidents of the Northeast 10 have extended an invitation to the University of New Haven to join their athletic conference, effectively bringing football back to the UNH campus. “Many of you already realize that this is a huge move forward for us in a number of ways,” President Steven Kaplan said in a note sent to the University community. “Membership in the Northeast 10 enhances our athletic potential, raises our academic profile, and marks us as a university that is aggressively moving forward.” Click here to read the sports section front-page story in the New Haven Register.

UNH to Embark Upon Feasibility Study for a Law School
President Steven Kaplan announced that the University has received permission from the UNH Executive Committee of the Board of Governors to embark upon a feasibility study to create a law school at UNH. UNH Partnering With New Haven Symphony Orchestra
The University of New Haven and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) have signed an agreement of collaboration to house the administrative offices of the NHSO on the UNH campus for two academic years. Read more about the agreement.

President’s Reception for Memory & Legacy: Wise Words Spring from Memories of a Horror: October 10
Holocaust survivor and UNH graduate Martin Schiller stood before an audience at Dodds Hall on October 10 and spoke of the many freedoms available to him, and the responsibility that accompanies those freedoms. That responsibility includes keeping alive the memory of the six million who died at the hands of the Nazis during World War II. “Freedom to me is not a concept,” he told the crowd. “It is a bittersweet reality that rests in the corners of my brain.” Schiller, 74, the author of “Bread, Butter and Sugar: A Boy’s Journey Through the Holocaust and Postwar Europe,” spoke at a reception for “Memory & Legacy,” the exhibit detailing the story of the effort to create the New Haven Holocaust Memorial, the first Holocaust Memorial to be built on public land. Those in attendance had an opportunity to hear from University President Steven Kaplan about the growth of the campus and the relationship between UI and UNH.
