UNH to Induct Five into Athletics Hall of Fame
(Continued from UNH Today home page.)
Christine Huber, Basketball and Soccer, 1996-2000 The definition of a two-sport star, Huber was a four-time all-conference selection and is second in the University’s record books for scoring for the women's soccer program with 63 goals and 144 points. Equally adept in basketball, she was a three-time all-conference selection and still ranks eighth in career scoring (1,453 points) and tenth in career rebounding (764).
Cazzie Kosciolek, Football, 1997 Kosciolek quarterbacked UNH to the national championship game in his only season in the blue and gold, then moved on to a position as an assistant coach for the Chargers. Now coaching at the College of the Holy Cross, he finished third in the voting for the Harlon Hill Trophy, Division II's version of the Heisman, after passing for 3,232 yards and 32 touchdowns to lead the NCAA's highest-scoring offense (43.3 ppg).
Joe Maher, Men's Soccer Coach, 1981-90 Maher is second in program history with 108 victories in 10 seasons, including two trips to the NCAA Elite Eight (1981, 1983) and an appearance in the NCAA Final Four in 1984. He led the team to a school-record six consecutive seasons with 10 or more wins, including a school-record 17 in 1983. The team was ranked in the top 20 of the final national poll four times.
Kim Schmidt, Softball and Women's Volleyball, 1984-88 A four-time all-conference selection and an all-region pick as a senior, Schmidt still ranks among the softball program's all-time leaders in seven hitting categories. She is the program's career leader with 15 triples and is in the top 10 in career at-bats, hits, runs, doubles, RBIs and stolen bases. She helped the team to a 97-66 record in her four seasons. As a defensive specialist, she helped the volleyball team to a pair of NCAA Elite Eight appearances and one berth in the Sweet Sixteen, with a combined record of 107-21.
Robert Skinnon, Baseball, 1998-2001 The NECC Player of the Year in 2000, Skinnon batted .479 that season and hit exactly .400 during his four-year career at UNH. He is the program's all-time leader in base hits (233), led the nation in runs scored in 1999, and drove in 113 runs during his career. He led the team to a 103-45-1 record and two NCAA appearances, including College World Series in '98.

University Community P. Penny Pecka Total Benefits
We at the University of New Haven consider employee benefits a critical part of the employment landscape. Over the years there have been many changes due to the advancements in healthcare related to new technology, treatments, and the subsequent cost increases. UNH has always strived to offer the best possible products and services available while remaining fiscally responsible. To that end, we are embarking on a few exciting initiatives/concepts that I would like to share with you at this time.
First, we need to consider benefits in the broader sense. Traditionally when we hear the word “benefits” we think healthcare. I would like for us to consider benefits as “Total Benefits” which includes the following:
=
Pay/Salary
=
Paid Vacation/Sick Time
=
Retirement Benefits
=
Tuition Assistance
=
Life, Long Term Disability and AD&D Insurance
=
Wellness (Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability, Benefit Fair, Beckerman Recreation Center, Health Screenings)
Secondly, it is important that we look at the total benefit package when making decisions as individuals or as an organization. In July of 2007, President Kaplan formed a Benefit Advisory Committee (BAC) to help facilitate this decision making process. This is a multi-disciplinary committee whose purpose is to review the University’s total benefits programs, bring forth possible issues, aid in solution generation, provide communication to constituents and make recommendations to the University administration.
Lastly, I would like to introduce the Total Benefits Survey. This survey is meant to serve multiple purposes. It will be used to assist the BAC, the Administration, and the HR Department in the development of a comprehensive benefits package. The goal of which is to meet the needs of the majority of employees while also optimizing the total benefit dollars available. Furthermore, it will help us to identify new benefits of interest as well as areas where additional communication, education, and/or clarification may be necessary.
Within the next couple of days, you will receive a survey from our partner and insurance broker, Gallagher Benefit Services. The email will come from Kellie_Mills@AJG.com and the subject will be Total Benefits Survey. We ask that you take time to complete the survey and provide your comments. Your individual responses will return directly to Gallagher Benefit Services and will be anonymous to UNH. We will be factoring this information into our future decisions regarding total benefit offerings at UNH. Be sure to complete the survey if you want your views and concerns (good or bad) to be factored into the University’s future decision making process regarding the total benefit programs offered.
Those who complete the survey will be eligible to receive one of two $50 gift cards. In order to be considered for the drawing the last question asks for your name. Remember, UNH will not have access to the individual surveys, only the cumulative results, so your responses will still remain anonymous to UNH even if you give your name for the $50 gift card drawing.

ZOMBIES FROM THE BEYOND!!!
When: Saturday, December 8, 2pm - 6pm Where: Upper Lounge, Bartels Hall
Auditions will be held for the UNH Spring Musical: ZOMBIES FROM THE BEYOND by James Valcq. This crazy, funny musical is about an invasion from outer space of women from another planet who turn men into their their zombie slaves. Who will save the world from these buxom alien creatures from Planet X who threaten our American way of life? IT COULD BE YOU!
The musical is very loosely based on science fiction movies from the 1950's such as Invasion From Mars, Queen of Outer Space, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Catwomen of the Moon.
For the audition, be prepared to sing any song or songs that shows off your range. The auditions will be done American Idol-style - a cappela (no piano accompaniment).
There are parts for 4 women, 3 men, and a chorus of six to ten men and women. One man needs to tap dance. We're also looking for someone to play accordion in the orchestra.
If you are interested in auditioning, please email me right away at RBoles@newhaven.edu. I will schedule an audition appointment for you.
Copies of the script are available at the front desk of the library beginning this evening. Please take a look at the script if you can.
