Professor of criminal justice on defense strategy
Mike Lawlor, professor of criminal justice, state representative and former prosecutor, comments on Raymond Clark III's defense strategy in the Annie Le murder case. "It's a potential death penalty case...when you get into that situation, the defense lawyers and prosecutors become much more cautious," says Professor Lawlor. "...[but] in a case as serious as this, I can't imagine that the prosecutors would be looking for anything less than the equivalent of a life sentence here."

After recovering from a serious injury that left him in a coma on September 24, 2008, James Hilaire is now an assistant coach at UNH. Quips head coach Joshua Krusewski, "If guys get a bump or a bruise, I send them right over to James and have them tell him how hurt they are."

Henry C. Lee Institute Breaks Ground 25-Sept-09
"It will be the first of its kind in the world," says UNH’s Lee
The Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science will revolutionize the way crimes are solved, with features like forensic-crisis management and cold-case resolution. The new Institute will also "bring law enforcement training and forensic research to another plateau," according to Dr. Lee. The building’s technology will also be used by law enforcement officials around the state.

Students delved into the world of crime-scene investigation and received hands-on experience with some of the techniques and technology seen in TV and movies.

University of New Haven communication students took first place in the second annual Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of Connecticut Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest. The competition was held to find a new 30-second PSA to reinforce the dangers of underage drinking through the creative use of sound and image. This year's theme was "Underage Drinking and Connecticut's House Party Law."

UNH Debuts New Levy Investigation Lab
The campus community watched in amazement Monday, May 4 at the inaugural burn of the new state-of-the art Levy Family Fire Investigation Laboratory. The lab, which consists of three 10-by-10 furnished rooms, allows Fire Science students to read burn patterns and determine a fire's point of origin and cause.

UNH's record-breaking enrollment was a top news story throughout Connecticut and the nation. Even USA Today noted the University’s historic growth. The largest freshman class in UNH’s 88 years moved on campus in late August 2008 and all three networks couldn’t resist stopping by to talk to students about University’s growing popularity and impressive transformation.
