University of New Haven (UNH) students Brian Merrifield '10, Peter Orlowski '10, Heather Eckert '13, Brian Buechele '13, Jesse Shea '12 and graduate student Nicole Boisso witnessed first hand the production of a live taping of the NBC late-night talk show, “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” during a one-day internship on October 30. The event was hosted by Maggie Kuypers, head of the props department of the show, and Mike Shoemacher, executive producer.

The day began inside Rockefeller Plaza with backstage studio tours including the “Today” show, MSNBC and “NBC Nightly News,” and concluded with the late-night talk show’s rehearsal and final taping.

Merrifield spent several hours helping the props department prepare for the show (including one involving a dozen or more frozen turkeys), while Buechele participated in an on-air bit with The Amazing Kreskin, one of the world’s most well-known mentalists. All of the students had the opportunity to meet Jimmy Fallon and talk with him after the show.
