Amy Thompson received her B.S. in industrial engineering and M.S. in manufacturing engineering from the University of Rhode Island, and is currently completing her Ph.D. in industrial and manufacturing engineering at the University of Rhode Island. Prior to her appointment at UNH, Thompson conducted research and performed case studies in supply chain and transportation network design that resulted in her being named Outstanding Student of the Year in 2008 by the U.S. Department of Transportation. She has worked in several industries, including pharmaceutical, medical device, scheduling software and agriculture. While at Sandoz Agro, Inc. (now Novartis), she was awarded a U.S. patent for the design and development of an eco-friendly fly abatement product. Her research focuses on system design, development and optimization, incorporating system thinking and design for environment and service-based learning into undergraduate engineering curriculum.
