What:  Dr. Richard Deslauriers '90, will lecture on the latest developments in biomedical technology during National Engineering Week at the University of New Haven (UNH). Deslauriers has invented several biomedical devices-including an advanced stethoscope, a bone anchor, and most recently a bone cement that can glue broken bones back together-all of which await FDA approval. This event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Alvine Engineering Professional Effectiveness and Enrichment Program.

When:  Tues., Feb. 19, 2008 at 1 p.m.

Where:  Schumann Auditorium in the Tagliatela College of Engineering, Room B120, UNH Campus

Details:  Dr. Richard J. Deslauriers graduated from UNH in 1990 with a B.A. in mechanical engineering. Prior to and during his studies at the University of Toronto Medical School he was a project engineer with Johnson & Johnson Medical Inc. During his final two years of medical school he was employed by Medtronic Interventional Vascular. Immediately following graduation from the University of Toronto in 1997, Deslauriers opened Doctors Research Group, Inc. (Oxford, Conn.) which has successfully launched 25 innovative medical devices through strategic alliances with some of the world's largest medical device companies.
