West Haven, Conn., April 16, 2007 - University of New Haven (UNH) junior Nikki Nadeau was recently elected president of the national Music and Entertainment Industry Students Association (MEISA) at the organization's annual conference in Los Angeles. Nadeau was elected by her peers for her passion for the music industry as well as her enthusiasm for enhancing MEISA activities for students. She is currently pursuing a BA in music industry as well as an AS in business administration at UNH. As MEISA president, Nadeau intends to unify student chapters across the United States as well as provide an opportunity for student members to gain experience in running a live show.

Nadeau has served on the UNH MEISA chapter's e-board for the past three years as secretary, vice president, and president. She is also the president of the MEISA chapter at UNH, the executive assistant for the Undergraduate Student Government Association (USGA), president of Harmonies, an a cappella choir, and the co-creator and president of Student Pagans Educating, Leading, and Learning (SPELL). Nadeau remarks, "Since I've come to UNH. I have grown in so many different ways through the numerous leadership positions I've had.. Through my experiences I now have the self-confidence to reach goals that many people only dream of."

In March, 15 UNH students and Guillermo Mager, associate professor and chair of visual and performing arts, attended the 2007 National MEISA conference in Los Angeles, where Nadeau was named president. The conference provided an opportunity for students to learn more about the music industry through a series of speakers, panels, workshops, and other MEISA organizations from across the country.

UNH holds the distinction of being "one of the top 100 schools that rock" according to "Schools That Rock: The Rolling Stone College Guide." Courses such as "The History of Rock" and "The Physics of Music," internships at ESPN and MTV, a wide range of study and a myriad of opportunities for growth and real-life learning have garnered national attention for the University's music and sound recording majors.
