Popular Intramural Sports Program Expands

Article Body

The recent opening of the David A. Beckerman Recreation Center at the University of New Haven (UNH) has brought an expansion of several popular student programs, in particular, intramural sports, also known as the REC Sports Program. This past academic year, nearly 400 students participated in 16 different activities, proving that the future of REC Sports is limitless. This fall, the program will add several new activities including fiddle stix, team handball, and sports trivia contests.  At UNH's new Beckerman Center we hope that there's always "something for everyone."

September 2008 also brings the first full year of the "The Quest for the Charger Cup" competition, in which students organize friends and compete for accumulating points throughout the year. In May 2009, teams will be awarded points for everything from participation to good sportsmanship, with one team ultimately selected as the "Charger Cup Champion." The first team to win the coveted Charger Cup, the Kinky Bears, set the precedent for the championship and will forever be remembered at UNH with an engraved trophy and the team's color hanging in the rafters of the Beckerman Recreation Center. Congratulations to the 25 members of the Kinky Bears and all other teams which participated.
