New Master's Degree in Professional Education Offered at Southeastern Campus

 Emphasis Will be on Current Trends in the Classroom

West Haven, Conn., May 23, 2008-The satellite campus of the University of New Haven, UNH Southeastern, located on the Mitchell College campus in New London, Conn., has added a new Master of Science in Professional Education Program to its fall line up. Emphasizing current trends in the classroom, the new degree is for current certification teachers who are interested in obtaining their master's degree.

The curriculum will include "special topics" courses, focusing on emerging practices and trends in education and learning for K-12 teachers. Courses included in the new program will include: Strategies for Teaching Modern World Languages in K-12 Classrooms, Teaching the Millennium Student, Teaching English Language Learners, Brain Compatible Learning, and Adaptive Teaching (Differentiation).

The program will feature the cohort style that is similar to other graduate programs UNH Southeastern offers. Students of the program will follow the same schedule and take classes together on weekday evenings throughout the entire program, creating friends and networking opportunities in the process.

To kick off the Master of Science in Professional Education, UNH Southeastern will host a free professional development seminar for Conn. certified teachers with the topic, "Millennials, Media Literacy and Pop Culture's Influence in the K-12 Classroom" on May 29, 2008. The seminar will be held in the Weller Center at Mitchell College, 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm. CEU credits will be available, but seating is limited and registration is required.
