(11-02-09) WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Two University of New Haven volleyball student-athletes received Northeast-10 Conference accolades. Tia Inong was named NE-10 Setter of the Week, while Keidy Candelaria received NE-10 Freshmen of the Week honors. The duo helped lead the Chargers to a pair of victories over Bentley (3-2) on Friday and Stonehill (3-0) on Saturday.
Inong nabbed her first NE-10 honor of the season following a successful weekend. She stepped into the Chargers’ starting setter position and handed out 10.75 assists per game. Inong tallied 86 assists through the two matches, including a season-high 52 on Friday night, while registering 18 digs and three blocks.
Candelaria received the Freshmen of the Week honor for her third consecutive week and the sixth time overall. She tallied 3.50 kills per set and 4.12 digs per set in the two matches. Candelaria hammered 28 kills on 75 attempts with eight errors for a .267 hitting percentage, while registering a team-best eight aces and 33 total digs.
Elizabeth Akinbiyi was also named to the weekly honor roll for her performance over the weekend.
The Chargers return to the court for two more regular season matchups. UNH is at Saint Anselm on Friday night for a 7:30 p.m. contest, followed by a 1 p.m. match at Saint Michael’s on Saturday.
