(10-26-09) SOUTH EASTON, Mass. - University of New Haven sophomore forward Alexa DellaRocco has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 25, 2009.
DellaRocco led the Chargers to a pair of overtime victories this past week, including a 1-0 victory in their regular season finale on Saturday. The sophomore scored the game-winning goal in the 97th minute, keeping the Chargers alive in the NE-10 postseason picture. She added two goals in the Chargers 4-3 overtime victory over Adelphi University on Tuesday as well.
Currently leading the team, DellaRocco has 13 goals and two assists this season.
The Chargers currently stand sixth in the NE-10 standings. Three other teams, who could knock the Chargers out of the NE-10 Tournament, play on Wednesday, October 28. Currently ranked seventh, Adelphi travels to 12th ranked Southern Connecticut, with a Panther win or tie they would jump the Chargers. Currently ranked eighth, St. Anselm takes on 13th ranked Bentley, with a St. Anselm victory, they would also jump the Chargers in the standings. Currently ranked 10th, Le Moyne hosts first ranked St. Rose, the Dolphins need to win to jump the Chargers as well. As results come in on Wednesday, more information will come available.
