(10-19-09) SOUTH EASTON, Mass. - University of New Haven women's volleyball student-athlete Sara Malmlov has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week, while Keidy Candelaria has been named the NE-10 Freshman of the Week for the week ending October 18, 2009.
Both helped lead the Chargers to in a 3-0 week, including a big East Region victory over the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday. The Chargers also swept UMass Lowell on Friday night and Merrimack on Saturday.
Malmlov tallied a team-high 4.36 kills per set and 3.27 digs per set. She registered a .329 hitting percentage off 48 kills and 10 errors on 109 attempts. The junior also recorded five aces and five total blocks in the three wins. This was Malmlov's second NE-10 Player of the Week honor in the last three weeks.
Candelaria earned her fourth NE-10 Freshman of the Week honor this week after posting 4.00 kills per set, 2.27 digs per set and 0.55 blocks per set last week. She also grabbed three aces and five assists. The freshman tallied a week-high 23 kills and 11 digs against the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday.
The Chargers, ranked third in the first NCAA Division II East Regional Poll last week, return to action on Wednesday, October 21 when they travel to American International College for a match at 7 p.m.
