BALTIMORE -- Junior Brigid Brady became the first nationally-recognized player in University of New Haven women's lacrosse history on Wednesday when she was named Second Team IWLCA/US Lacrosse Division II All-American.
Brady was one of 32 student-athletes selected nationally as a Division II All-American by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association (IWLCA). Her honor comes on the heels of being named First Team All-North Region by the IWLCA/US Lacrosse last week, which automatically made her eligible for All-America honors.
Brigid had her third consecutive standout season at the attack position for the Chargers. She tallied a team-high 53 goals in 2008, and added to her school records in both points and goals. She scored multiple goals in 13 different matches and totaled 21 eight-meter goals.
In three seasons at UNH, Brady has now registered 189 points and 167 goals. The Islip Terrace, New York native was also a First Team All-ECC pick this season.
She helped lead UNH to the finest season in school history, with the Chargers rising all the way to No. 8 in the IWLCA Division II National Coaches poll at one point this season. UNH finished ninth in the final coaches' poll in a season that saw the Chargers win a school-record 14 matches - doubling their previous best total for wins in a single season. Two of UNH's three losses on the season came to teams included in the four-team NCAA Championship field.
