CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. -- On Monday, University of New Haven baseball pitcher Mitch Rossi was named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week. The award covered games played from April 28-May 4.
Rossi has now won the award in consecutive weeks after sharing the honor with Mike Aviles of Saint Thomas Aquinas last week.
The Bristol, Connecticut native made four scoreless appearances last week, picking up a win and a save. He has now either won or saved 10 of UNH's 22 victories. In his 6 1/3 innings of work last week, Rossi recorded eight strikeouts while allowing just four hits. He not allowed a run in his last nine appearances, totaling 14 2/3 innings.
UNH wrapped up the regular season this weekend with a three-game series sweep over Queens College. Their 17-10 ECC record put them in a three-way tie for the regular season championship. The Chargers will be the number two seed in the upcoming ECC Tournament. They will take on the winner of Wednesday's match-up between (6) Adelphi and (3) Dowling.
