CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. -- On Monday, University of New Haven baseball pitcher Mitch Rossi was named the East Coast Conference Co-Rookie of the Week. The award covered games played from April 21-27.
Rossi (photo) shared the award with Mike Aviles of Saint Thomas Aquinas. He is the third Charger baseball player to earn Rookie of the Week honors this season.
The Bristol, Connecticut native made five scoreless appearances last week, totaling 8 1/3 innings. He struck out nine while picking up two saves, both in wins over C.W. Post on Saturday. He limited opponents to just a .185 batting average.
UNH enters its final week of regular season play beginning with Bridgeport on Tuesday followed by a three-game series versus Queens this weekend. The Chargers open play on Tuesday only one game behind first-place Saint Thomas Aquinas.
