About the CLR

The CLR is comprised of three labs: the Math, Science, and Business Lab; the Writing Lab; and the Computer Lab, as well as the Peer Tutoring Program.

Math and Science Lab, Maxcy 110
The Math, Science, and Business Lab offers undergraduate students individual and small-group tutoring in subjects such as: accounting, biology, biostatistics, chemistry, economics, engineering, mathematics, physics, and quantitative analysis. We also staff tutors in social science courses such as psychology, sociology, and statistics. Students may sign up for appointments with Math Lab tutors in increments of 30 minutes.

There are three types of tutors in the Math, Science, and Business Lab: professional tutors with a master's degree or higher and college-level teaching experience in their field(s), graduate student tutors, and peer/undergraduate tutors who have displayed special skills in their subjects.

The Writing Lab, Maxcy 108
The Writing Lab offers undergraduate students help with writing through individualized tutoring sessions with professional tutors. Our tutors have earned a master's degree or higher and possess teaching experience.

The goal of each session is not to proofread a paper but to help the student become a better writer by focusing on both the strengths and the skill areas in need of improvement. The student and the tutor work together using applied exercises and revision strategies. Our tutors provide help in areas such as composition, lab reports, resumes and cover letters, and in preparation for the Writing Proficiency Exam (WPE). Content help at the introductory level is also provided in core courses such as: communications, film studies, Chinese, French, German, Spanish, reading and writing fundamentals, and literature.

During the school year, tutors in the Writing Lab are available by appointment and for drop-in help. Please stop by the Writing Lab to make an appointment or 203.932.7215. Students may sign up for up to three, 30-minute appointments per week. Back-to-back appointments are not permitted. Please call 203.932.7215 if you will not be able to make your appointment.

The Computer Lab, Maxcy 110

The Computer Lab offers UNH students access to computers for their word-processing, data entry, spreadsheet, and Internet needs. Tutors are also available to help with SPSS, graphic design, desktop publishing, and some elements of CS 107 and CS 110, as well as Microsoft Office.

The Computer Lab is located next to the Math, Science, and Business Lab. When composing a paper, students find these computers convenient for making revisions right after seeing a tutor. If the work is in statistics on Excel, a tutor can help the student right at the computer.
