Understanding the mysteries of cell metabolism and the complexities of the genetic code; conservation in the face of global change; better ways to grow fish and other marine creatures; new approaches to assessing environmental impacts— whether it’s these or other issues that face us and our natural world, the Department of Biology and Environmental Science provides the education, technical tools and opportunities for students to develop the expertise and know-how to pursue careers in the diverse fields of biology, marine biology and environmental science that focus on understanding and solving such issues and extending this knowledge to others.
