Graduate Admissions Requirements

Graduate Admissions Requirements for International Graduate Students Seeking Master Degrees:

  1. Submit a complete Application for International Students. Include a NON-REFUNDABLE Application Fee of $50.00 - bank check or money order - drawn on a U.S. Bank and made payable to the University of New Haven. DO NOT SEND CASH. Your application will NOT be processed without the application fee.  If you apply online, you will be required to pay the application fee using a valid credit card.

  2. A. Graduate/Post-Graduate Applicants seeking Master degrees must submit official notarized, certified or attested copies of ALL ORIGINAL post-secondary school (university/college) records with a proof of graduation, if available. This includes official/notarized/certified/or attested mark sheets, academic transcripts, final examination results, diplomas, and degree certificates from every college or university attended showing course work, grades, number of course hours, and conferral of bachelor's degree if available. Indian applicants must submit detailed semester-by-semester mark sheets/academic transcripts.  CONSOLIDATED mark sheets alone are not acceptable.

    B. Graduate Applicants who have not yet received their Bachelor degree certificate/diploma may still apply by providing their year-to-date official, notarized, certified or attested mark sheets, academic transcripts and a letter (or a provisional degree certificate) from their college/university stating their anticipated graduation date. In other words, evidence that the applicant has completed, or is in the process of completing, a university-level degree program must be provided.

  3. Submit official notarized, certified or attested course descriptions or syllabi, with exact course names and numbers, for all post-secondary (university/college) academic work attempted so that they may be evaluated for possible transfer of credit. Student-generated course descriptions are not acceptable.

  4. Submit a word-for-word notarized/certified/or attested English translations in the same format as the official document if the official document is not in English. It is important that everything on the official document be translated. Translations must be done by a bona fide translating agency in your country or in the U.S.

  5. Provide two letters of recommendation in English. These letters must come from professors or employers who can attest to your attainments and potential for success at the graduate level. No special form is required.

  6. Submit a resume or C.V. reflecting your work experience (if applicable). However, students with no work experience can still apply.

  7. All non-native English language speakers must demonstrate English language competency by providing an IELTS score of 5.5 or a TOEFL score of 520 on the paper based test (PBT) or 190 on the computer based test (CBT) or 70 on the internet based test (iBT). The University of New Haven School Code for TOEFL is 3663. All graduate students seeking a master's degree whose iBT TOEFL scores range from 70 to 79 (or from 190 to 213 CBT or from 520 to 550 PBT), will be required to take an English language leveling course (E600) in their first term along with their other regular courses. Graduate students with IELTS scores that equal 5.5 but are below 6.0 will also be required to take E600.

  8. Complete and submit the Financial Statement for International Students Form (FSIS) accompanied by an original bank statement from your sponsor showing adequate funds. The bank statement must be of recent date of issue, no more than 6 months old, in English, and it must be in the same name as your sponsor. To download the FSIS form, click here.

  9. Submit a clear copy of your passport information page with your complete name, date of birth and country of citizenship.

  10. Applicants who are currently residing in the U.S. must submit clear copies of their U.S. visa stamp, I-94 card, I-20 (if any), I-797 (if any) and all other immigration documents.

  11. Some degree programs in the Graduate School have additional requirements for admission. Students seeking a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (M.S.) or Electrical Engineering (M.S.) will be required to submit a GRE score.  For more information, please click here.
