Transfer Students

UNH Undergraduate Admissions

 

 

The University of New Haven has a rolling admissions process. This means that students can apply for admission at any time throughout the year and receive a decision shortly after submission of all required materials.

Although there is not a particular deadline, it is recommended that students apply as early as possible since space in some of our academic programs tend to fill up quickly. Typically, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions begins to review applications as early as September 1 for admission the following fall.

Students have the option of applying directly to the major of their choice or applying as undeclared. Applications for admission are considered complete and will be reviewed once the following materials are received: 

  1. Application - Students can apply with the UNH Application for Undergraduate Admission, the Common Application, or the Universal Application. the most convenient way to apply is online using any of the three forms; however, students can fill out our paper copy and mail it to:

    Apply online and save 50% on the application fee.

    Please note that equal consideration is given for admission to students who submit the UNH Application, Common Application, or Universal Application.

  2. Application Fee - The application fee when applying for admission is $50.00 for students submitting a paper copy and $25.00 if submitting online. These fees are the same if submitting the UNH Application, Common Application, or Universal Application.

  3. Transcript(s) - Submit official transcripts from all the colleges/universities that you have attended. (Note: The Right of Privacy Act requires that you must request all your official transcripts. UNH cannot request them on your behalf.)

  4. If you have completed less than 24 total earned credits from your previous college(s), you must submit an official copy of your secondary/high school transcript to the Undergraduate Admissions Office. A satisfactory General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is acceptable in place of a high school diploma.

  5. If you have completed less than 24 total earned credits from your previous college(s) you must submit official test scores for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT) from the testing center. Our SAT code is #3663. For further information about the SAT go to www.collegeboard.com . Our ACT code is #0576. For further information about the ACT go to www.act.org . Test scores submitted by your high school will not be accepted.

  6. Transfer students have the option to submit a personal essay and at least one letter of recommendation.

Transfer Credit

Transfer credits are evaluated at the time of application, and students will receive a preliminary transfer credit evaluation with their acceptance letter. The academic department to which the student applied will make a final determination of transfer credits. Evaluation of transfer credit is based on the following criteria:

  • Credit for the course must have been earned at a regionally accredited institution.
  • Course grade must be a "C" or better. Credit is not awarded for pass/fail courses.
  • Students may transfer a maximum of 60 credits from two-year institutions and a maximum of 90 credits from four-year institutions. A student's final 30 credits must be earned in residency at UNH.
  • Remedial, technical, and vocational courses do not transfer to the University of New Haven.
  • Only a student's credits transfer to the University of New Haven. Grade point average (GPA) does not transfer. Transfer students begin a new GPA at the University of New Haven.

The University recognizes the College Entrance Examination Board's Advanced Placement Program (AP), the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and the International Baccalaureate (IB).  Please send official test scores or transcripts to:

  • Credit may be granted for AP exam scores of 3, 4, or 5
  • Credit may be granted for CLEP passing percentile scores of 50 or better.
  • Credit may be granted for IB exam scores of 4 or better.
