University of New Haven students may graduate in January, May, or August of each year. Ceremonies in which students may participate are held in January and May only. August graduates are invited to participate in the following January's ceremony.
Matriculated students are required to submit a petition for graduation in the term immediately preceding their anticipated commencement. Petitions should be reviewed and approved by the student's department chairperson (undergraduate) or program coordinator (graduate), then submitted to the Bursar's Office with the designated fee, if applicable (see Fee Schedule below). If you are expecting to graduate at the next scheduled commencement, you are reminded to file your graduation petition no later than the date listed below for your prospective commencement:
January Commencement - October 15
May Commencement - March 1
August - Awarding of Degrees - June 15

Master's Degrees - $110
Graduate Dual Degrees and BS/MS - $185
Doctoral Degrees - $150
Students completing their degree requirements at the end of the fall or intersession terms will qualify to receive their diplomas with a January commencement date. Students completing their degree requirements at the end of the winter term (graduate) or spring term (undergraduate) will qualify to receive their diplomas with a May commencement date. Students completing their degree requirements at the end of the spring or summer terms (graduate) will qualify to receive their diplomas with an August commencement date. Diplomas may either be issued at the commencement ceremonies or mailed to the students shortly afterward, depending on the timely submission of final grades by faculty members.
Petitions for graduation are available in the Registrar's Office, the Bursar's Office, University College Offices, and the Office of Academic Services.
